Mushroom D2

  • Isn’t Vitamin D3 better than Vitamin D2?

If you wish to increase your vitamin D levels quickly, Vitamin D3 can do this quickly but if you are taking Vitamin D every day then it doesn’t matter what form you are taking. See more info on our Mushroom Vitamin D article.
  • How do mushrooms produce vitamin D?

Mushrooms contain a fungal sterol called ergosterol. When mushrooms (Agaricus, shiitake, oyster, etc) are exposed to UV light, they convert ergosterol (provitamin D2) to Vitamin D2.
  • Is Mushroom D2 synthetic or naturally derived?

It is naturally derived. We use organic Agaricus mushroom (button mushroom), which has been exposed to UV light bringing the vitamin D content up to over 40,000 IU per gram.
  • What is the source of Citric Acid in Mushroom D2?

We use citric acid as a processing aid in creating our Vitamin Mushroom Powder for Mushroom D2. The citric acid used in production is Citric Acid Anhydrous and is an approved processing material for organic production. Citric acid is a naturally occurring fruit acid, produced commercially by mi...
  • Why is Shiitake hot water extracted and Agaricus Bisporus isn’t?

The Agaricus mushroom powder doesn’t need to be extracted in order to increase the Vitamin D2 content.
  • Do you have any relevant studies that showcase the efficacy of Vitamin D2?

Here are a few studies but we have more in our Mushroom Vitamin D article. Keegan, R. J. H., Lu, Z., Bogusz, J. M., Williams, J. E., & Holick, M. F. (2013). Photobiology of vitamin D in mushrooms and its bioavailability in humans. Dermato-Endocrinology, 5(1), 165–176. Phillips, K. M., Horst...
